okay, so here is the deal!

i recently put my art (Marc, Olivia, and Cory) in an open house held at York, and i had a good turn out, i'd say.

i was nominated for an all expenses paid trip to ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA to study master classes. ...super cool? i think so! as i said, it is just a nomination right now, so we will see what happens with that, but cross your fingers for me, eh?

here are the pieces that i put in (sorry for the image, i forgot my camera).

so, to sum up, open house -> RUSSIA -> fingers crossed.

so here is another one i am working on - 7ft by 3.5ft, a bit bigger than the previous two.

i plan on using this one, and the first two large drawings in an upcoming York show...so it has a deadline...

for my drawing class, i have to do a series of five drawings exploring the human body. they are 30x20", and in gouache (a medium i didn't really use, but love it now!)
they aren't finished yet, but i wanted to post them all the same.

24 Hour Art Workshop..

two weekends ago i took part in a little thing called the 24 Hour Art Workshop. essentially, i made from 9am-9pm on saturday and sunday, and whatever resulted from in was hung in a show.
here are the two pieces that i did (one in the 15 hours, and the other i completed with the rest of my time.

hopefully i will do one or two more this semester.

also! cool news - i may be working on some charcoal pieces for a small film (by someone at York), so i will keep that updated...

here is a project that ended up a lot more interesting than the syllabus promised! we had to create a set of rules for someone else to follow that were precise and concise. Here are the rule:
Here are the instructions:

Listen to Seaglopur by Sigur Ros twice all the way through - once listen to how the song makes you feel and its musical intensities. Secondly, listen to its musical technicalities and general rhythms.
There must be four different musicians to play each part.
Use only the two premixed colours of paint given to you: green and purple. Use them as your instrument instructions tell you to.
On the paper, there are 16 sections, each of which represent thirty seconds of the song. In the first thirty seconds of the song, paint in the 00:00 - 00:30 section, and in the next thirty seconds, immediately paint in the 00:30 - 01:00, and so on and so forth. I will be calling out every thirty seconds to allow for uninterrupted creativity. Do not paint where your instrument is not involved (however, if excess paint from another section crosses the sections, that is allowed).
When painting on the page, paint as though you would be playing your instrument:
- Piano - Use only your fingers dipped in paint to paint on the paper. Reload whenever the paint on your fingers is running out. Play the song with your fingertips on the paper as it sounds, and as you would on the piano. First, go through the
whole song using green for the riff/continuous pulse. Secondly, go through the song using purple whenever the playing becomes intense.
- Vocals - Pour paint in accordance to the volume of the vocals in each thirty second section of the song (loud = more, quiet = less). Use a straw and blow through it into the self-poured paint in the same matter as you would be singing the song using the same breathing/singing techniques. First go across the page listening to the song all the way through using green paint as the riff/continuous pulse. Secondly, use purple as the high/low points in the intensity of the song.
- Bass - Use only your fingers dipped in paint. Reload whenever the paint on your fingers is running out. Play the song with your fingertips on the paper as it sounds, and as you would on the bass using the same finger strides. On the first pass of the song, use green for the riff/continuous pulse, and use purple when the playing becomes intense on the second pass.
-Percussion - Use drumsticks as an extension of your fingertips. Dip the ends into paint, and reload when the paint is running out. Play the song on the paper as it sounds, and as you would play with your sticks on the drums. First use purple as the rhythm of the drum kit during the first run of the song. Secondly, use green for the beats of the bells.
Must be arranged on a white wall, one on top of each other, with the lines on each piece lining up, and hung in order (from top to bottom): Vocals, Piano, Bass, and Percussion.

this was an assignment last year in abstract drawing. we each made a cardboard sculpture, and had to draw it from many angles, and from that, we abstracted two of them, and this was the result.

Don't Panic

this is a project that i had last year in my painting class. the assignment was to take an existing painting, and to recreate it. I chose the painting "Don't Panic" by Paul Robert Turner, and changed it a bit. i made the painting three-dimensional by painting on four canvases stretched with clear plastic (my first resource was glass, but it proved to be too expensive for this project/my budget). apparently, acrylic paint does not stay on plastic, so it was a challenge. afterward, i suspended the paintings two inches apparent from the ceilings, so you could see through them to the next, and they gave the appearance of swaying. with better resources, this painting would have turned out much better, and i guess that is a note to self.

these were all done with powedered graphite and pencil crayon, and are all 22"x30". 2006.

here are the next installments in the project. "Justin" and "Michelle", both 30"x22". not a hundred percent sure i enjoy the paper i used for "Michelle" (it's light lilac, though you can't really tell) but what is done is done and i will love it later.

the project was to create a 3d drawing concerning sex appeal. while everyone else decided to deal with human 'real vs. stereotypical' beauty, i chose to represent animal sex appeal/how the males impress their mates.
i worked with make up for ever flash colour kit, and foundation. here they are: peacock, goldfinch and cardinal.
